Hi! I’m Doris Foster.

Doris Foster

Master Certified Birther

I’m kidding. I made that up. I totally certified myself. I do feel like I earned it because my body did birth every one of the babies by itself. There were people around me but I did all of the hard stuff myself.

SEVEN TIMES.

Nobody told me to push. My uterus pushed. I consider it the greatest accomplishment of my life.

I have lived a freaking amazing life.

I was the middle daughter of immigrants and was raised Baptist.

Married.

Birthed.

Homesteaded.

Homeschooled.

Lived off the grid.

Dealt with death.

Ran businesses.

Divorced.

Changed my life.

Realized that there are so few people still birthing undisturbed that many young pregnant women don’t even realize it’s possible. We have bought into a really weird and possibly dangerous narrative.

Here’s what I know.

Childbirth is part of the autonomic nervous system.

Wait, what?

Yes, your body knows exactly what to do, at every stage, in order to get that baby from inside you to outside you.

Really?

But don’t we need a doctor and hospitals to help at that last part, you know, getting things started and then getting that big head out of that little hole it is supposed to come out of, I mean, how is that even going to happen?

No, we do not need help at the end. Think about it.

It is so complex to even get pregnant.

There are incredibly complex processes in place that make the baby grow from two cells to a fully formed human. There are complex hormones that from these two cells, form the placenta, amniotic sac, the umbilical cord, and an entire human baby with all of the complex systems that we have.

Then when it’s time to come out….Oh dear.

You really think the Creator or whoever set up this system thought, “Oops, I guess I didn’t think this through, but you know what, they can just figure out how to get them out.”

I think not.

But there are people who want you to think you are defective or your body is broken and there is so much wrong with you that you will actually probably need to be cut open to get the baby out.

Why do they give you that message?

Money?

A genuine desire to help but the system they work in has tied their hands?

Fear of how powerful women actually are and a desire to keep women from feeling that power?

Misogyny (hatred, contempt, prejudice against women)?

Adherence to a patriarchal system where men have most of the power and dominate in politics, religion, society?

How would the world change if we started telling the truth?
